Middleweight Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson made his much-anticipated pro debut on Saturday night at Bowie State University in Maryland, and he did not disappoint. Simpson would stop Deandre West in round one to earn his first professional victory.
The Baltimore native was a highly decorated amateur, including being a six-time National Silver Gloves Champion and amassing an amateur record of 182-3.
Many have spoken very highly of Simpson; from the great Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Gervonta Davis, the consensus is that Simpson could be the next big thing in boxing.
“Truck(Simpson), he’s just different,” Simpson’s trainer Calvin Ford told the Uninterrupted earlier this year. “It seems like he’s possessed to make himself better, and better each and every day.”
The 18-year-old Simpson has high hopes for his career, and if all goes well, he expects a title in the next few years.
“It depends on my development,” Simpson told Paul Gant about winning a belt. “How much stronger I get, but no more than four years. I’ll give it like two or three (years).”
Simpson had a rough upbringing in Baltimore, including losing his father to gun violence when Simpson was only four years old, but through it all, Simpson kept pushing, and now he could be boxing’s next big star.
People who have experienced what Simpson had at such a young age don’t make it out of Baltimore, but as we have learned about Lorenzo Simpson, he’s different.
