It was a much closer fight this time around; however, this time someone walked out of the ring a winner and someone walked out a loser. On Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez(50-1-2, 34 KOs) defeated Gennady Golovkin(38-1-1, 34 KOs) by majority decision at T-Moblie Arena in Las Vegas to capture the WBC and WBA middleweight titles, while handing Golovkin his first loss. Golovkin’s streak of middleweight title defenses ends at 20, which leaves Golovkin tied with Bernard Hopkins for the division record.
Should be interesting to see if we get a third fight between these two foes.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
If @Canelo WON , Maybe @OscarDeLaHoya can be PRESIDENT .

Btw, Canelo deserves big props for fighting a smart, exciting Fight and coming away with the W. The three judges deserve props for totally credible cards, whether you agree or disagree. And #GGGBoxing yet again shows why he’s been a credit to #boxing and is a HOFer. G’night

For what it's worth, @KevinI from Yahoo, @latimespugmire from the LA Times, @timdahlberg from Associated Press and I all had #CaneloGGG a draw. #boxing

Canelo deserved it!
— Devin Haney (@Realdevinhaney) September 16, 2018
I thought GGG had it…. Canelo was the one who went down on a knee.

One thing is for sure, I’m looking forward to Canelo vs. GGG 3. Enjoyed both fights even though I didn’t agree with either outcome.

Canelo vs GGG fight views remind me of this dress. Y’all can’t be this blind. GGG won & the dress is Blue!! pic.twitter.com/sSXrAVosna

To see GGG finish the fight and lose is kinda weird. Last fight he scored a draw bc Canelo finished. Boxing has just about lost my little contribution. I buy the fight just wanting to see a fair fight and decision. Don’t feel like I got that tonight

Thank you give this man his credit, 1st fight he boxed and they say he ran – This fight he’s right in front of GGG the whole time and they still hating on this man close fight but Canelo earned it! https://t.co/A4Yz6yoRX3

Ggg just didn’t have it tonight. He had his moments though and I’m still a big fan! But Canelo just won more rounds in a very close fight. I can understand the disappointment GGG must feel right now.

Here are the official scorecards. My biggest issue? 2 our of 3 judges gave the 12th to Canelo. I thought GGG clearly won that round. If they gave it to GGG, it would have been a draw. pic.twitter.com/DpK95wujZ9

I don’t think it was robbery, had Canelo winning and I really wanted GGG to win. Some very close rounds that could have went either way. Canelo’s body work, sharp counters and punch output stole it for me. Great fight with two great champions! Gutted for GGG 💥🥊

Found out about Canelo when he was 23 years old fighting Floyd Mayweather, it was amazing to watch him battle it out with legend GGG. Big congrats on the win Saul @Canelo

What a fight #CaneloGGG2 I gave the fight to Canelo. It was toe to toe action, Very exciting. Canelo surprised us all with the come forward pressure game plan. Well done to both Canelo and GGG. Boxing needed this @HBOboxing @GoldenBoyBoxing
— Amir Khan (@amirkingkhan) September 16, 2018
8-4 or 9-3 for the Mexican. Body shots were the difference #CaneloGGG2
