The last time we saw WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman in the ring, he defeated Danny Garcia to win the WBC welterweight title back in March of 2017.
This past April, due to an elbow injury, Thurman vacated the WBC welterweight title. With the WBC welterweight title up for grabs, Garcia will battle Shawn Porter for the vacant WBC welterweight belt on September 8 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Some wonder if the 29-year-old Thurman is interested in getting back into the ring, including Garcia.
“He’s out because of me. I was the one who broke his elbow, but I just feel like I just feel like he’s not hungry no more since he unified the division,” Garcia said during a conference call on Tuesday. “I think he reached the height in his career that he always wanted to reach.
“I think he’s married now or he’s traveling the world, so his mind is not in the game. So I just don’t think he’s hungry anymore. I think he passed what he wanted to accomplish. I may be wrong, but from what I see that’s how it seems to be.”
At this point, there is no word on when Thurman will make a return to the ring, so you do wonder if he still has the hunger for the sport.
Hopefully, we will see “One Time” sometime in the near future.
