It took some time, but we finally have the fight we all wanted. Golden Boy Promotions announced today via Twiiter that a deal is in place for Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin to fight on September 15. The fight is expected to be in Las Vegas.
Canelo, GGG were scheduled to fight back in May, but the fight was canceled after Alvarez pulled out due to testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in February. Alvarez was suspended six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The suspension is expected to end on August 17.
These two fought to a controversial draw last September.
The two camps have been going back and forth, but ultimately, a deal was made. This is the biggest fight that could be made for both fighters.
