Buccaneers kicker Nick Folk had a bad night on Thursday night in Tampa’s 19-14 loss to the Patriots. At this point, Folk is having a bad year. After missing three field goals last night, and missing two field goals and an extra point last week against the Giants, Folk, 32, has now missed 5 of his 11 field goal attempts this season. That’s not good
However, former Buccaneers kicker Martin Gramatica, who was a great kicker for the Bucs, believes that Folk should be given another opportunity to make it right.
“The pressure they are getting from the town. Everybody is calling for Nick’s head, which to me, he is such a good kicker and he has proven it,” Gramatica told TMZ Sports. “I would definitely give him another chance, for the fact that he could snap out of it, and just have a great career. He’s a 80 plus percent kicker, so he’s not a horrible kicker. He’s a good kicker. To me you gotta give him a chance, and hopefully he can snap out of it next week.”
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bucs will be auditioning kickers to possibly replace Folk. Gramatica knows that this is going to be tough for Folk:
“Today, is going to be a tough day, especially they are bringing in kickers for tryouts, so you don’t know if you’re going to have a job or next week. The best thing you gotta do is just forget about it,” Gramatica said.
Tampa can’t go another week with Folk as their kicker. The Bucs are looking to make the playoffs. They might not be able to do that if their kicker is missing multiple field goals in a game. They tried drafting a kicker in Roberto Aguayo, but that did not work, they tried Folk, and that did work. Now, it’s time to find a consistent kicker!
