Spurs F Kawhi Leonard has been called the best two-way player by many in NBA circles, including Michael Jordan. Leonard, 26, who was a MVP finalist last season, has established himself as an elite player in the NBA.
In only six seasons, Leonard has won a NBA title, was a NBA Finals’ MVP, is a 2x NBA All-Star, 2X All NBA first team, and 2x DPOY award winner. In short, Leonard is a NBA superstar!
However, former NBA star Penny Hardaway does not see Leonard as a superstar.
Hardaway, as transcribed by Jabari Young, told the Bottomline Sports Show on Sirius XM’s NBA Radio the following:
“Superstar? No. Kawhi Leonard is not a superstar because he has no interest in being the face of the league or starring in TV commercials. He’s a good player, but I wouldn’t consider him a superstar player,” Hardaway said.
It’s an interesting criteria, but using that premise was Tim Duncan a superstar? Duncan was as quiet as they come. Maybe it could be said in this manner: On the court, Leonard is a superstar. Off the court, Leonard is not.
End of the day, I know 29 others teams who would love to have Kawhi Leonard!
