Former NFL QB Michael Vick is catching some heat for his comments about free agent QB Colin Kaepernick. Yesterday, Vick told FS1’s Speak for Yourself the following:
“First thing we’ve got to get Colin to do is cut his hair. Listen, I’m not up here to try to be politically correct. Even if he puts cornrows in there, I don’t think he should represent himself in that way in terms of just the hairstyle. Just go clean-cut. You know, why not? You’re already dealing with a lot of controversy surrounding this issue. The most important thing that he needs to do is just try to be presentable.”

While I don’t think what Vick said was wrong, I don’t think it relates to Kaepernick’s situation. Kaepernick is not in the league right now because of the stance he took, and his decision to sit during the national anthem. His hair is not the issue. Vick, who had cornrows in the past, only cut his hair because he was about to go on trial for dog fighting.
If Kaepernick’s situation was as simple as cutting his hair, he probably would cut it tomorrow. Teams take chances on 29-year-old quarterbacks, who have had success in the league. Has he played well over the past few years? No! However, he was not awful last season. He did enough to get another chance.
Maybe Vick’s advice should be stop tweeting about racial issues, stop doing work in the community, and shut your mouth! Sadly, if Kaepernick did all of that, he probably would have a job tomorrow.
