Trent Cole and Hugh Douglas will be inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame on November 27, when the Eagles host the Green Bay Packers.
The official announcement was made Friday night against the Jets during a halftime ceremony as part of the Eagles Legends Homecoming Game, in which many of the franchise’s greats returned to celebrate their time with the team.
The former defensive standouts both rank among the top six in career sacks for the Eagles, with Cole having registered 85.5 quarterback takedowns (second all-time) during his 10-year career and Douglas notching 54.5 (sixth all-time) during his six seasons with the team.
“Trent and Hugh were both high-impact pass rushers and consummate teammates,” said Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Eagles Chairman and CEO, via a press release. “When we traded for Hugh, we knew we were getting a player who would immediately make our football team better. He was a tremendous leader on a defense that helped guide us to many deep postseason runs. Upon Hugh’s retirement, we were fortunate to acquire another talented edge rusher through the draft. Trent was a dynamic and durable player who provided us with an advantage on defense thanks to his endless motor, selfless style of play, and passion for the game. It will be an honor to officially enshrine them both in the Eagles Hall of Fame this season.”
The Eagles drafted Cole in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. The two-time Pro Bowler compiled double-digit sacks in four separate seasons, ranking second in team history behind Reggie White (eight double-digit sack seasons). His 155 games played in an Eagles uniform is third all-time among defensive linemen and 14th among all players in franchise history.
A first-round draft pick (16th overall) of the New York Jets in 1995, Douglas was acquired by Philadelphia in a trade during the 1998 offseason. As a member of the Eagles, he earned three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl (2000-02) and a first-team All-Pro nod (2000). Douglas totaled three seasons with double-digit sacks, including a career-best 15 quarterback takedowns in 2000. After playing elsewhere in 2003, he returned to Philadelphia for his final NFL season in 2004, where he helped lead the team to Super Bowl XXXIX.

Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles held a practice in front of almost 30,000 fans.
According to Eliot Shorr-Parks, QB Jalen Hurts was 11/18, touchdown. That touchdown was a beautiful 30-yard pass to A.J. Brown.
In addition, rookie DT Jordan Davis, who has been impressive at camp, showed off his tremendous strength. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni discussed what he sees from Davis.
“Size, strength, right? Just a big man who is still figuring out the NFL,” Sirianni said. “That’s an ongoing process.What you see more than anything is just the sheer size of the man and then just his strength. The guys that we went against that have that enormous size in the middle right there, they pose problems.
“So that’s what’s stood out the most to me so far.”
Brown, who was traded to the Eagles from the Titans in the offseason, and signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the team, was excited by the fan support on Sunday night.
The Eagles continue to prepare for their preseason opener, which is Friday night at home against the Jets. At this point, Sirianni is unsure how much the starters will play against New York.
“Still sorting through all that,” he said. “We don’t have to make that decision until Friday. We’ll probably make it a little bit sooner than that, but still sorting through that. Last year we played them, I want to say two series each. We felt like that was a good formula. I’m not committing to that yet. But we’re still thinking it through at this time.”
On draft day, the Philadelphia Eagles made a splash move when they acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans. Following the trade, Brown signed a four-year, $100 million deal with the team.
The 25-year-old has been over one-thousand receiving yards in two of his three seasons in the league. In addition, for his career, he has 24 receiving touchdowns.
With Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Eagles could have one of football’s best wide receiver duos. On Tuesday, Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen discussed what he’s seen out of Brown at training camp.
“His physicalness that he brings to this football team, he’s got great play strength,” Steichen said. “He caught a slant the other day, and I had a flashback watching his tape when he was in Tennessee catching some of those slants. It just brought me back to his tape in Tennessee, where he catches that ball strong with his hands, and then he creates those plays afterwards. He can run a guy over or make a guy miss, but his play strength is very impressive.
Brown and Eagles QB Jalen Hurts have a close bond off the field and work out with each other in the offseason, but for the Eagles to be successful, Brown and Hurts need to bond on the field. Steichen talked about how the two are meshing at this point.
“I think they’re making great strides,” Steichen said. “They’ve spent a lot of time together in the off-season, obviously in spring, and then they threw again in the summer. It shows up, the timing, right?
“With anything, wide receivers and quarterbacks, it’s not like it just happens overnight. It’s been good to see. They’re talking through things right after every period. They are talking about, hey, we got to run it more like this, and this ball needs to be here. Those things take time, but it’s been good to see, and the progress has been really good.”
It’s early, and Hurts has reportedly been up and down thus far at camp, but again, it’s early, which means Hurts, Brown, and the rest of the offense have time to get on the same page but be clear, Brown will definitely be a weapon.
This is a big season for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as he is looking to prove that he can be the franchise quarterback for the team.
As he enters his third season in the league and his second in Nick Sirianni’s offense, the Eagles hope Hurts can elevate his game and his team.
According to Sirianni, Hurts, who led the Eagles to the playoffs after throwing for 3144 yards and 16 touchdowns to go along with 749 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021, has looked very comfortable in the offense.
“Jalen is, in my opinion, more comfortable in the offense, right,” Sirianni said Wednesday as the team continued voluntary OTAs. “That’s just the part of the process, the second year. He knows where the receivers are going to be versus different looks. He knows where to go with the football a little bit quicker.
“We’ve done our job as coaches, and I don’t want to say we’ve done a good job, but what we’ve done as coaches is figured out what he likes and what he’s good at and all these different things. It’s just accumulating those reps.
“Like we talked about, I think you guys asked me that last year, was some of these quarterbacks that have been played for so long, they’re in year 15, 16, 17, they’re getting better at reading it, why, because they’ve seen the play over and over and over again. That’s the same progression Jalen has.”
Sirianni is confident that Hurts has the character to improve and become a better player.
‘The reason we know Jalen is going to continue to get better is because of the character, and the football character and the personal character that he has,” Sirianni said. “He’s just the type of guy that’s going to reach his maximum potential because of all the off-the-field qualities he has. I’ve also noticed just the crispness of the drop. It’s been the fundamentals — his fundamentals have improved, and he’s really worked hard at that.
“He’s working every day to get better, and I’m really pleased where he is right now, but we have to continue to lay the groundwork. That he went 11 of 12 yesterday in 7-on-7 means nothing. He has to continue to get better and better and better. I don’t know; you guys would have a better feel what he was today. I didn’t keep track. I’ll go watch it when I’m done with you guys, but I thought he had a pretty good day today, too.
“But really what I noticed is he’s really seeing where to go with the football and going there quick.”
On paper, the Eagles have the talent to be an improved team next season, but for that to happen, Hurts, who was solid last season, has to be better.
The Philadelphia Eagles will begin the season in Detroit against the Lions, the league announced on Thursday night. Two of Philadelphia’s first three games will be on the road as they travel to Washington to battle Carson Wentz and the Commanders in Week 3.
In Week 4, Philadelphia will host Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Back to Wentz, he and the Commanders will come to Philadelphia for the first time since the trade on Monday Night Football in Week 10.

Philadelphia will open the 2022 campaign against Detroit on the road at Ford Field, marking the club’s first ever game against the Lions on kickoff weekend. Additionally, the Eagles will begin the season with an away game for a third consecutive year, which is the team’s longest such streak since 2011-13.
Philadelphia’s five scheduled primetime contests are its most in a season since 2018. Dating back to 2000, the Eagles have appeared in the second-most primetime games (94) in the NFL, behind Dallas (100).
A national audience will once again be treated to an Eagles-Cowboys matchup in Week 6 on Sunday Night Football. With the exception of a nationally televised 2014 Thanksgiving afternoon contest, the division rivals have squared off in primetime every season dating back to the 2007 campaign.
Philadelphia will not play consecutive road games through the first 13 weeks of the season. Furthermore, the Eagles will close the year with back-to-back home outings for the first time since 2017.
Philadelphia’s Week 7 bye marks the Eagles’ earliest break since 2016 (Week 4).
The Philadelphia Eagles may have gotten one of the steals of the 2022 NFL Draft when they selected former Georgia LB Nakobe Dean(5-11, 229 pounds) in the third round on Friday.
Dean was one of the 21 players invited to Las Vegas, and many expected him to be selected in Round 1. However, injury concerns may have caused him to drop, which surprised Dean.
“It was definitely nerve-wracking, especially not knowing exactly all the way why I was falling like that,” he said via video conference call. “But, at the end of the day, I feel like I got picked by a great organization, and I’m just ready to get to work…
“I’d be remiss to say that I wasn’t surprised. But at the end of the day, you know, thank God for the whole process. It’s done nothing but make my chip grow bigger, and I’m just ready to play. Ready to get to work.”
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Dean suffered a strained pectoral muscle during his prep for the draft, which he did not get repaired surgically. According to reports, the decision not to get surgery concerned some teams, but according to Dean, none of his doctors said he needed surgery.
“That was the thing that was so surprising and mind-boggling,” Dean said. “It was never … I went to doctors, got second opinions and everything, and nobody, nobody said I should have surgery. Nobody had told me I had to have surgery.
“So, for that to come up and for teams to be saying that and waiting until the day of the Draft to say something like that, that was kind of crazy to me.”
The 2021 Butkus Award winner(given to college football’s best linebacker) and All-American played with the newest Eagle, Jordan Davis, at Georgia, and he is excited to play with Davis again on the NFL level.
“He kind of clears things up for me,” Dean said. “Had me run a little bit more. He makes it easy for everybody, if you ask me, not just for the linebackers but for the rest of the [defensive line] and for the secondary. I feel like having him there is going to be great.”
Dean, who many called a great leader at Georgia, wished he would have gone earlier in the draft, but, in the end, he’s looking forward to the opportunity to play in Philadelphia.
“I’m ready to go,” he said. “I know mini-camp is next week, and I expect to be a full participant for that. And why I dropped, it’s not in my control—nothing I can do. I couldn’t – there was nothing I could do to make them pick me earlier. Just grateful and pleased that I have this opportunity.”
The Eagles needed linebacker help, and getting maybe one of the best linebackers in the draft in Dean could definitely strengthen that unit and the defense in 2022.
Twenty-one prospects are confirmed to attend the 2022 NFL Draft in Las Vegas, Nevada, the NFL announced today.
Georgia leads all colleges with three players in attendance while Alabama and Ohio State will each have two players on-site. The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with seven prospects confirmed to attend, followed by the Big Ten (four players), Pac-12 (four) and Atlantic Coast Conference (three).
The draft begins with the first round on Thursday night, April 28, and continues Friday, April 29, with Rounds 2-3. The draft will conclude on Saturday, April 30, with Rounds 4-7.
The NFL Draft, which was held in Cleveland last year, will be hosted in the state of Nevada for the first time.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, the team announced Thursday night.
Jacksonville had interviewed several candidates, including Buccaneers OC and former Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich, who reportedly took himself out of consideration for the job.
Pederson will take over for Urban Meyer, who the team fired in December after less than one season. Darrell Bevell was named the interim head coach for the rest of the 2021 season.
“Doug Pederson four years ago won a Super Bowl as head coach of a franchise in pursuit of its first world championship,” owner Shad Khan said via a press release from the team. “I hope Doug can replicate that magic here in Jacksonville, but what is certain is his proven leadership and experience as a winning head coach in the National Football League. It’s exactly what our players deserve. Nothing less.
“Combine this with his acumen on the offensive side of the ball, and you have why I am proud to name Doug Pederson the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I know our fans will warmly welcome Doug and his family to Duval, and I personally look forward to having Doug as part of everything we envision for the team, downtown, and community in the years ahead.”
Pederson, 54, joins the Jaguars after most recently spending five seasons as the head coach (2016-20) of the Philadelphia Eagles, compiling a 46-39-1 record during the regular season and postseason. During his time in Philadelphia, the Eagles made the postseason in three consecutive seasons (2017-19) and won two NFC East titles (2017 and 2019). In 2017, Pederson led the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl Championship in Super Bowl LII with a 41-33 victory against the Patriots.
Ultimately, Pederson was fired by the Eagles following the 2020 season after Philadelphia finished 4-11-1. He would sit out the 2021 season.
Before arriving in Philadelphia, Pederson served as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-15, helping the team post a 31-17 regular-season record over three seasons.
A 12-year NFL veteran, Pederson played quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cleveland Browns.
A complete list of home and away matchups for the 2022 regular season was issued Thursday by the NFL.
Each team will play 17 regular-season games (and three preseason games) as follows:

Home and away against its three division opponents (six games).

The four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating, three-year cycle (four games).

The four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating, four-year cycle (four games).

Two intraconference opponents based on the prior year’s standings (two games). These games match a first-place team against the first-place teams in the two same-conference divisions the team is not scheduled to play that season. The second-place, third-place and fourth-place teams in a conference are matched in the same way each year.

One interconference opponent based on the prior year’s standings on a rotating four-year cycle (one game). These games match a first-place team from one division against a first-place team in an opposite-conference division that the team is not scheduled to play that season. The home conference for this game will rotate each season, with the NFC teams hosting the game in 2022.
The scheduling formula implemented in 2002 with realignment guarantees that all teams play each other on a regular, rotating basis.

As of January 19, 2022, it appears Jalen Hurts will be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022.
At their end-of-season press conference, Eagles GM Howie Roseman said Hurts, who led the team to the playoffs in his first year as a starter, had done enough to be Philly’s QB1 next season.
“We talk about [QB] Jalen [Hurts] and the growth he had, really as a first-year starter and second-year player and leading this team to the playoffs,” Roseman said. “I’m tremendously impressed by his work ethic and his leadership. The last time we talked was during camp, and we said we wanted to see him take the bull by the horn, and he certainly did that.”
The second-year quarterback had one of his worst performances of the season against the Buccaneers on Sunday, which seemed to have opened the door for the Eagles to look in another direction. However, Roseman, who has three first-round picks to play with in the upcoming draft, feels he needs to build a better team around the 23-year-old Hurts.
“I think for us, we have to do whatever we can to continue to help him develop,” Roseman said about Hurts. “And how do we do that? By surrounding him with really good players, players who continue to grow. That’s a huge part of developing; they grow. How they are in their second year is not how they are going to be in year four, five, six, and seven. And they are also products of the people around them. That’s on us to continue to build this team.”
This season, Philadelphia finished the season 9-8 and was the seventh-seed in NFC. Going forward, Roseman wants the Eagles to be in a position to have home playoff games.
“We are not happy about the fact that our season ended in the playoffs,” he said. “We want to build a team that has home playoff games, gets to play in front of our fan base, and really build a team that gets a bye.
“Those opportunities, those assets you talk about, allow us to continue to build and really helps us add good players to this team. Our job is to look at everything, to evaluate every position, every player. We do that not only for right now in this moment, but we also do it, so we have information when players become available at any position.”
A lot can happen from now until the start of next season. Hurts is the guy for now, but if the Eagles could still upgrade the position, I’m sure Roseman will do everything in his power to do so.
