In Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, Angel Reese had 14 points in the first half.
However, her production dropped off in the second half. Reese scored zero points on 0/2 shooting.
In Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, Reese had another strong first half, with 15 points and seven rebounds.
This time, she continued her dominance in the second half. Reese added 15 points and nine rebounds, finishing with 30 points and 16 rebounds as the Dream defeated the Valkyries 79-65 at Chase Center on Monday night.
The Dream tied the series at 1–1, with Game 3 set for Wednesday night in Atlanta.
Atlanta earned its first Finals victory after losing its first 10 games in the championship round.
Reese is now one of six players in WNBA history to record at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in the playoffs, and she became the youngest player in WNBA history to record a double-double with at least 20 points in the Finals.
She became the first Dream player ever to record back-to-back double-doubles in the Finals.
Reese wanted to contribute more than she had in the second half of Game 1.
“I think I let my team down last game, not really contributing as much as I could in the second half,” she said. “Not even just about scoring. My screen quality, me hustling and wanting to get rebounds, and just doing the things that they know me to do. So I just wanted to make sure I came out tonight and left my mark and did whatever I could to get the win, and I think I did that tonight.”
Jordin Canada, who had 13 points and 10 assists in Game 2, says Reese is a special talent.
“Angel is such a generational talent,” Canada said. “Just to see her thrive in the Finals has been really special to watch, and you can just see that she wants it really bad. She’s such a competitor, and we feed off of her energy.”
