The New York Jets (2-3) snapped their three-game losing streak after defeating the Cleveland Browns (3-2), 17-12, at MetLife Stadium.
The Jets took the lead late when running back Braelon Allen scored on a 22-yard touchdown run.
This win was about what the Jets did on defense. Last week, the Jets defense allowed almost 500 total yards against the Bears.
This week was a much different story.
New York had eight sacks, a season high and tied for the most by a Jets defense in a single game this century. The Jets limited the Browns to under 200 total net yards. For the second time in franchise history, the Jets held each of their first two home opponents below 200 total net yards.
Rookie LB David Bailey had a big-time performance against the Browns.
He led the way with seven tackles, three sacks, and three tackles for loss, becoming the first NFL player this season with three sacks in a game.
After the win, the second overall pick in this year’s draft discussed his big performance.
“It felt good, man,” Bailey said. “It felt good to know that to do this, to compete against the highest level, and I’m just proud of my d-line. I’m proud of the defense as a whole to come together. We’re working on the things that we said we’re going to work on.”
Jets coach Aaron Glenn was not surprised by what he saw from Bailey on Sunday.
“I’ve said it all along that his time is going to come,” Glenn said. “I have all the confidence in him in the world. He did a good job today. He did a good job. There are some things that he’s got to work on. For him to come out and have, I think, three sacks, that’s who David is, and we expected that.”
The Jets will look to carry that defensive momentum into their road matchup with the Patriots.
