The Philadelphia Eagles (2-3) lost their third straight game, falling to the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1), 19-17, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Philadelphia lost as time expired when Jaguars kicker Cam Little made a 57-yard field goal to win.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:
-Darius Cooper had two catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. He had a 62-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
He has a team-leading four receiving touchdowns, which are tied for the third-most in the NFL this season.
-Zack Baun returned after missing last weeks game against the Rams with a concussion, and he played well. As usual, Baun was all over the field. He recorded 11 tackles, 1 TFL, and 2 quarterback hits.
-Jalen Carter had his best game of the season. He recorded two strip sacks against Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, and three tackles for loss. He is the first Eagle since 2022 to have multiple strip sacks in a game.
Honorable Mention:
‘-Quinyon Mitchell had the first regular-season interception of his career on Sunday.
-Dontayvion Wicks had five catches for 63 yards.
Bottom Line:
For the last two weeks, the Eagles have been down a bunch of starters to injuries, but they battled in both games and had a great chance to win both.
However, they didn’t.
The offense continued its second-half struggles. The Eagles, who led 14-7 at halftime on Sunday, haven’t scored a second-half touchdown since Week 2.
They rank last in the league in second-half points and yards per game and have the most second-half three-and-out drives.
That’s not a winning formula.
Jalen Hurts (21/40, 220 yards, TD) wasn’t great, but the patchwork offensive line and the absences of DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley help explain it.
Defensively, they did enough to win. They bent a little but didn’t break.
After the Eagles took a 17-16 lead with eight seconds left, Nick Sirianni decided to kick to Ameer Abdullah instead of kicking it out of the end zone. Abdullah returned the kick to the Eagles’ 39-yard line with one second left.
That was a bad decision by Sirianni. You could argue that Sirianni cost the Eagles the last two games. His decision to pass up a field goal against the Rams and his kickoff decision Sunday both proved costly.
You could also argue the Eagles could have done a better job milking the clock on the team’s final drive, which ended with Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal. However, they left eight seconds on the clock, and we know what happened next.
The Eagles are expected to get Smith and possibly Barkley back next week, which should help the offense.
Four of their next five games are at home, so the Eagles have a chance to right the ship.
What’s Next:
The Eagles return home next Sunday to host the Carolina Panthers.
