Eagles’ Roseman: ‘We’re trying to win this year’

The Philadelphia Eagles traded two-time Pro Bowler C/G Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick, the teams announced Wednesday.

With this move, Philadelphia will have new starters at guard and right tackle after Lane Johnson retired Tuesday.

Jurgens, who signed a four-year, $68 million deal with the Eagles in 2025, was one of the NFL’s premier centers. However, the 27-year-old has battled injuries over the past two seasons and has struggled this season after transitioning to guard following an injury to Landon Dickerson.

The Eagles probably don’t win the Super Bowl in 2024 without Jurgens play, as he replaced future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce. Jurgens helped pave the way for Saquon Barkley’s 2,000-yard season.

The Eagles’ offensive line will look a little different than it did in Week 1, when Johnson, Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Dickerson, and Jordan Mailata started.

Against the Jaguars on Sunday, it will be rookie RT Markell Bell, OG Steen, C Drew Kendall, OG Willie Lampkin, and Mailata.

Not what the Eagles had in mind when they opened the 2026 season.

Are the Eagles punting on the season? Not necessarily. A 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick represent a strong return for Jurgens, whose recent injuries and struggles raise questions about his future.

For Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, the offer may have been too good to pass up. Still, he made it clear that Philadelphia is trying to win in 2026.

“I think nothing has changed in terms of our goals,” Roseman said, per NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro. “We’re trying to win this year. I think from my perspective, just looking at what is the ultimate goal, which is to win the last game of the year. And then have a run like we’ve had. Obviously, since Coach has been here, we’ve made the playoffs five times and have been to two Super Bowls. You want to have an extended run, so my job is to look at how we can have sustained success for a long period of time, and you don’t get many opportunities to get second-round picks in trades and get flexibility. I think, just looking at our team, a lot of guys on long-term deals, and being able to create some flexibility is a good situation for us financially and with the picks.”

Following the Jurgens trade, the Eagles have two first-round picks and two second-round picks in the 2028 NFL Draft.
