Dream on! Atlanta advances to semifinals after sweeping Mystics

For the first time since 2018, the (4) Atlanta Dream are on their way to the semifinals as they defeated the (5) Mystics 93-75 in Game 2 of their first-round series at CareFirst Arena.

With the win, Atlanta completes a 2-0 series sweep. The Dream will begin their best-of-five semifinal series on Sunday at home against the 8th-seeded New York Liberty.

The Dream, who never trailed in this game, knew they had to come to Washington and handle business.

Atlanta had their largest lead of the game, 19 points, in the fourth quarter.

The Dream made 13 three-pointers, tying the franchise’s postseason record for threes made in a game.

All five Atlanta starters scored in double figures, led by Allisha Gray’s 22 points.

Jordin Canada scored 13 of her 19 points in the fourth and had 11 assists, and Angel Reese and Rhyne Howard added 15 points apiece.

Sonia Citron had a game-high 25 points for the Mystics, and Kiki Iriafen added 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Now, it’s on to the Liberty for Atlanta, which is a more favorable matchup than the number-one-seeded Minnesota Lynx.

The Dream won the season series from the Liberty in the regular season 2-1. They recently swept a two-game set at Barclays Center to end the regular season. Plus, Atlanta will have home-court advantage, which they wouldn’t have had against Minnesota.

The Dream, who have never won a championship, have a very legitimate shot at making the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013. They are a hot team right now, having won seven straight, including five consecutive wins heading into the playoffs, and they might be hot at just the right time.

The Dream continues..
