On Saturday, the Orlando Magic announced that they have waived forward Jonathan Isaac.
Isaac, 28, played in 52 games last season with Orlando, averaging 2.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Due to a left knee strain, Isaac, who missed the last 22 games of the season, did not appear in the postseason.
The nine-year veteran, who was scheduled to make $14.5 million, $8 million guaranteed, was waived before his contract became guaranteed for the 2026-27 season, which will allow the Magic to save $6.5 million.
Isaac has battled injuries throughout his career. He tore his ACL in 2o20, which caused him to miss two seasons. Additionally, he played in only 11 games in the 2022-23 season due to an abductor injury.
Originally selected in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by Orlando, Isaac played in 328 career NBA regular-season games (109 starts), all with the Magic, averaging 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.19 blocks per game.
Isaac is a very good shot-blocker and can help a team, but he can’t consistently stay on the court due to health issues. The 6-10 forward will get another shot for sure, and if he’s healthy, could help a team.
