Eagles’ Roseman responds to ESPN story on Hurts

Recently, ESPN published a story about Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. In the story, Hurts was criticized for not always being coachable and for consistently changing plays at the line of scrimmage.

Last season, the Eagles’ offense wasn’t always at its best, including Hurts. Ultimately, the Eagles would lose to the 49ers in the wild-card round of the playoffs in disappointing fashion.

After the season, the team would fire first-year offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and hire former Packers assistant Sean Mannion.

On Tuesday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman addressed the media as the team gets ready for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Roseman was asked about the report on Hurts, and he addressed it.

“Yeah, I have seen those reports,” he said. “Bob(Lange) and our PR staff do a great job of showing us what we need to see. I would say that we have some faults. One of them is not being direct and honest with our players, and the conversations with our players. So for us, if we have any issue with any of our players, we talk to them directly. From my perspective, from Nick’s perspective, from [Chairman and Chief Executive Officer] Jeffrey’s [Lurie] perspective, we’re not hiding behind anything. We will talk to our players directly. I think that it’s unfair. It’s unfair to have these articles written, but I understand it’s also what sells at this point. So yeah, I think it’s unfortunate.”

No matter how you feel about the story on Hurts, many believe he has to be better in 2026, and he does. Was it all his fault? Definitely not, but as the quarterback, you are going to get more blame than you deserve, so in the end, when teams don’t have the success they want, somebody is going to get blamed.
