Pistons’ Cunningham to miss time with collapsed lung

The Detroit Pistons have been one of the surprise teams in the NBA this season, and at 49-19, they have the best record in the Eastern Conference.

However, after the news received on Thursday, they could be severely impacted.

According to the Pistons, All-Star guard Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a left lung pneumothorax.

The 24-year-old exited Tuesday’s game vs. the Wizards in the first quarter. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Cunningham’s lung collapse is considered mild, so hopefully, for him and the Pistons, he’ll be back before the playoffs, which start on April 18.

This season, Cunningham has been playing like an MVP. In 61 games, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is averaging 24.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per contest.

For now, the Pistons are trying to hold off the Boston Celtics(46-23), who are 3.5 games behind Detroit for the top spot in the East. Without Cunningham, the Pistons are 5-2 this season, so they have had success without him, and J.B. Bickerstaff and his team are hoping to continue that success at least for the next two weeks.
