On Tuesday, the National Football League announced that the Detroit Lions will be one of the participating teams for the upcoming 2026 NFL Munich game.

The game in Munich will be one of a record nine international games in 2026 across four continents, seven countries and eight stadiums – and will be played at the FC Bayern Munich Stadium as part of a multi-year commitment to playing games in the city in 2026 and 2028.

“It has been a dream of mine to play a game in my mother’s home country of Germany since coming to the league,” said Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in a statement. “I cannot wait to play in front of the incredible fans that I’ve gotten to know through my visits and football camps in the country. Their support for me and the country’s instant connection to the Lions brand is inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our team getting to showcase Detroit football on an international scale.”

The Lions’ opponent, along with the game date and kickoff time, will be announced when the full 2026 NFL schedule is revealed this spring.

The Lions have marketing rights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as part of the league’s Global Markets Program — an initiative that awards NFL clubs marketing rights in markets outside of the U.S. to build brand awareness and fandom, through fan engagement, events and commercial opportunities. The NFL’s Global Market Program sees eleven teams hold marketing rights in Germany, with six of those teams also active in Austria and Switzerland.

As part of the wider commitment to the regions, regular season games are also confirmed to be played in Munich in 2028 and Berlin in 2027 and 2029.
