This season seemed to be a difficult one for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. While he had his fourth straight 1,000-yard receiving season (78 rec, 1,003 yards, 7 TDs), Brown did not play at the high level we are used to seeing from him.
The three-time Pro Bowler, who was traded to the Eagles from the Titans in 2022, had three crucial drops in the team’s loss to the 49ers in the Wild Card Round last Sunday. In addition, he clashed with Eagles coach Nick Sirianni on the sideline during the game.
After the loss to the 49ers, Brown, who wrote cryptic messages on social media at times this season, did not talk to reporters. Also, the 28-year-old was not in the locker room on Monday when the players cleaned out their lockers.
On Thursday, Eagles Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman was asked if he would be open to trading Brown.
“We talked about this, I think, at the trade deadline last time I talked,” he said. “It is hard to find great players in the NFL, and A.J.’s a great player. I think from my perspective, that’s what we’re going out and looking for when we go out here in free agency and in the draft is trying to find great players who love football, and he’s that guy. I think that would be my answer.”
Brown is still a very good wide receiver, but he appeared to be unhappy with the passing game. However, with OC Kevin Patullo’s firing, maybe all of that will change.
When he first came to Philadelphia, it appeared that Brown and QB Jalen Hurts had a very close relationship, but that seemed to change over time. However, Hurts said on Monday that he and Brown are in a good place, which is great, especially if the team keeps Brown.
Also, if the team were to trade Brown, who signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the team in 2024, there would be a significant cap hit, so while a trade is not impossible, it could be unlikely. However, if there is a will, there’s a way.\
Brown put his best numbers up when he played with Hurts, and Hurts took the next step once he got Brown, so in the end, maybe these two are perfect together.
