On Thursday, Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, announced that Sabrina Ionescu was ruled unable to participate in on-court activities during the 2026 season due to an injury sustained during the WNBA season.
Ionescu competed for Phantom BC during the league’s inaugural campaign.
According to Unrivaled, the 28-year-old Ionescu, who starred for the WNBA’s New York Liberty, will remain involved with the league through off-court initiatives and partnership opportunities, including select on-air appearances with TNT Sports, Unrivaled’s national broadcast partner.
“While I’m disappointed I couldn’t play this season, I’ll be rooting for the Phantom,” said Ionescu in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with Unrivaled through content and broadcast opportunities and continuing to support the league’s success.”
This is another setback for the league, which recently announced that Napheesa Collier, who the league MVP last season, would miss the season after undergoing surgery on both ankles.
The Unrivaled season continues on Friday at Sephora Arena in Miami.
