Jets’ Glenn: ‘I let the players down’

The New York Jets(3-14) forgettable season came to an end on Sunday as they fell to the Buffalo Bills(12-5) 35-8 in the final regular-season game at Highmark Stadium.

New York finished the season on a five-game losing streak, and they were outscored 188-54 in those five games.

The Jets struggled all season on offense and defense. The quarterback play was not good, and the defense ended the season with no interceptions, which is the first time that has happened in the NFL since 1933.

The bottom line: the Jets were a bad team in 2025, and while it’s not all his fault, first-year coach Aaron Glenn took full responsibility for the team’s disappointing season.

“Obviously, the game was disappointing, and the only thing that I can think about is moving on to next year and taking this whole season… and I let the players down,” Glenn said. “I let the organization down, and that burns me, it really does. This was not expected of where we are this season, and I understand that, but here’s what I do know: I know the reason why I came here, and I am not going to waver from my belief and what I think wins games in this League. And I am very confident in myself, I’m very confident in this organization, I’m very confident in our owner, I’m very confident in Moug (Darren Mougey), and we’re going to work our [expletive] off to get this [expletive] exactly where it needs to be, and I do know that. But I’ll tell you this: this season is on me. It’s on me, and I get that, but I’ll tell you this: we’re going to work our [expletive] off starting tomorrow to make sure we get this [expletive] right. I do know that.”

Despite the Jets finishing 3-14, Glenn believes the fans should have faith in his ability to turn things around.

“You know what, there’s got to be trust, there’s got to be faith,” he said. “It does. And, the thing is, like I said before, I’ve been here, done that. And I just know myself. Hopefully, the fans know that, and I understand this season was not the way that everybody wanted it to go, and I get that, but again, just don’t let go of the rope, and just trust me. And I know that’s hard to say, just trust me, have faith in what we’re doing.”

In fairness to Glenn, the Jets don’t have a franchise quarterback, and it’s hard to win in the NFL without that. However, defense was supposed to be his strength, and the team finished near the bottom in many defensive categories.

Hopefully, Glenn and the Jets can get a franchise quarterback in the draft.

Can Glenn turn it around? Maybe? However. that’s up to GM Darren Mougey and owner Woody Johnson to decide.
