Bengals’ Chase suspended one game for spitting incident with Ramsey

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been suspended without pay for one game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the league announced Monday.

Chase will be eligible to return to the Bengals’ active roster on Monday, Nov. 24, following the team’s Week 11 game against the New England Patriots. Chase will be eligible to return in Week 12 against the Ravens.

During the fourth quarter, Chase spat on Pittsburgh cornerback Jalen Ramsey in a heated on-field altercation, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to “any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.”

Ramsey was ejected from the game for punching Chase after the spitting incident.

Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Chase has the right to appeal the suspension. The appeal process, which will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.
