The Philadelphia Eagles (7-2) defeated the Green Bay Packers(5-3-1) 10-7 at Lambeau Field on Monday night.
The Eagles, including the playoffs, have not beaten the Packers four straight times.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:
-Newest Eagles LB Jaelan Phillips was everywhere against the Packers. He finished with six tackles, one tackle for loss, a fumble recovery, and two quarterback hits. The fumble recovery was before halftime with the Packers in field goal range, and the tackle for loss came on the big fourth-down stop on Josh Jacobs late in the fourth quarter.
-Defense, defense! The Eagles’ defense was big-time on Monday night. They held Jordan Love and the Packers to a season-low seven points, forced two turnovers, and held Green Bay to 261 total yards. That’s a dominating defensive performance!
-DeVonta Smith has been the team’s best catcher this season, and that continued against the Packers. Smith had four catches for 69 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown reception in the fourth.
Honorable Mention:
-Saquon Barkley had only 60 yards on 22 carries, but he did have three receptions for 41 yards, including a big 41-yard catch and run that set up the team’s only touchdown.
-LB Nakobe Dean had seven tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss.
End of the Day:
The Eagles get another quality win against another quality football team. Yes, it wasn’t pretty. The offense was not very good. Quarterback Jalen Hurts(15/26, 183 yards, TD, fumble) was very average, and OC Kevin Patullo did not appear to call a great game, but again, they got the win.
Also, don’t like the give up draw plays on third and long. When you have A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, anything is possible. There’s too much talent on the roster for the Eagles to run draw plays in those spots.
While the defense’s performance was outstanding, it’s important to remember that holding teams to seven points consistently is a tough ask. Therefore, the offense to be more consistent in the future, and the team has the talent to make it happen.
You could criticize Nick Sirianni for going for it on fourth and six instead of punting the ball and trying to pin the Packers deep with no timeouts, but in the end, it all worked out.
What’s Next:
Eagles host the Lions next Sunday Night at the Linc.
One More Thing….
The Eagles have started 7-2 or better through nine games for the fourth consecutive season, marking the longest streak in team history.
According to Elias Sports, Sirianni became the fifth NFL head coach (first in the Super Bowl Era) to start 7-2 or better in four of their first five seasons, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Paul Brown, Guy Chamberlin, George Halas and Don Shula.
Philadelphia is tied for the 3rd-longest stretch of consecutive seasons with 7-2 starts or better since the 1970 NFL merger, trailing only the 2013-19 Patriots (seven with Bill Belichick) and 1971-75 Dolphins (five with Don Shula)
Sirianni (.714, 55-22) moved past George Allen (.712, 1966-77) for the 2nd-best winning percentage by a head coach in the Super Bowl Era, behind John Madden (.759, 1969-78). Sirianni’s .714 winning percentage is the 5th-best mark in NFL history, trailing only Guy Chamberlin (.784, 1922-27), Madden, Vince Lombardi (.738, 1959-67 and ‘69) and Ray Flaherty (.720, 1936-42).
