Pistons’ Cunningham named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

On Monday, the NBA announced that Pistons guard Cade Cunningham was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 9.

This marks the second time in his career that Cunningham has received the honor.

Cunningham, 24, led the Pistons to a 4-0 week with averages of 31.0 points (.547 FG%, .360 3FG%), 3.3 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 0.3 blocks and 0.8 steals in 37.3 minutes per game.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Cunningham holds season averages of 25.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 9.8 assists and is shooting 46.5% from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range in 10 games. His 9.8 assists per game ranks second in the NBA and is the highest average by a Piston since Isiah Thomas (10.0, 1986-87).

Cunningham had an impressive start to the week, scoring 19 fourth quarter points in a road win over the Memphis Grizzlies (33 PTS, 12-20 FG, 3-6 3FG), snapping a nine-game losing streak to Memphis.

The Arlington, Texas, native carried that momentum over against the Utah Jazz with 31 points and 10 assists. On Friday vs. Brooklyn, Cunningham recorded a season-high 34 points (13-18 FG, 2-6 3FGA), 10 assists, one steal, and led the Pistons to land their fifth straight win.

Cunningham capped off the week by leading Detroit to another road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, with 26 points, 11 assists, and one steal. This marked Cade’s sixth 20-point double-double of the season, which ranks second in the league behind Nikola Jokic (7).

Behind Cunningham’s hot start, Detroit has a 8-2 record through 10 games, which is the best start through 10 games since 2005.

The Pistons, who have won six straight, host the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
