The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the season when they fell to the Denver Broncos 21-17 on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
Philadelphia led 17-3 heading into the fourth quarter, and they had opportunities to extend that lead, especially in the third quarter when wide receiver A.J. Brown popped open, but it appeared Jalen Hurts overthrew him.
However, if you watch the replay, it appeared Brown slowed up, which led to the overthrow.
Hurts said this about the play on Sunday.
“I have to really watch the film to be able to assess that,” Hurts said. “Obviously, that’s the one that you want to hit in a big moment in the game.”
Brown had this to say.
“From my point of view, we just missed.”
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni added this on the play.
“Yeah, I’m going to have to go back and look at that,” Sirianni said on Sunday. “I thought they got a good reroute in on that on A.J. within the slot right there. Guys made a lot of plays today, credit to their defense, but I need to look at that play before I am able to answer that question.”
On Monday, Sirianni had this to say after watching the film.
“I look back at that and definitely see that the reroute affected us, that’s for sure,” he said. “That’s what defenses do. I mean, sometimes you’re expecting a certain look, they give you a different look or they reroute within the middle of it. That definitely affected it. I’m not here to assign blame; we’re just looking for solutions, and that’s what we’re doing. That’s what today was about. That’s what the rest of the week will be about: defined solutions. But I definitely think that the reroute affected the play, so hat’s off to them.”
Despite the missed opportunity, the Eagles are determined to bounce back. If they had hit on that play, they would probably be 5-0, but they didn’t, and now it’s on to the Giants on Thursday night.
