Oklahoma dominates Temple again

Coming into their game against 13th-ranked Oklahoma (3-0), the Temple Owls (2-1) were 2-0 for the first time since 2019, and they were hoping to pull off the upset.

Last season, in their season opener against Oklahoma in Norman, the Sooners routed the Owls 51-3. However, this time around, the game was at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, and the result was similar, with Oklahoma routing Temple 42-3.

Temple coach K.C. Keeler suffers his first loss at the university.

Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer was solid as he completed 20-of-24 passes for 284 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Led by Troy Blaylock, who ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns, the Sooners had 229 yards rushing. Oklahoma amassed 515 total yards, consistently moving the ball against the Owls.

Conversely, Temple struggled on offense. After throwing nine touchdown passes in the first two weeks of the season, quarterback Evan Simon came back to earth as he completed only 13-of-25 passes for 75 yards. Temple had a hard time protecting Simon, and he was sacked four times by Oklahoma.

The Owls, who recorded only seven first downs, finished with just 105 total yards.

Oklahoma is one of the top teams in college football, and despite the score, Temple showed remarkable resilience in this game, fighting hard against a formidable opponent.

Temple now faces a tough challenge on the road next Saturday against 18th-ranked Georgia Tech(3-0), while the Sooners have an equally exciting match as they host 22nd-ranked Auburn(3-0).
