Eagles’ Sirianni talks Micah Parsons

Last week, the Dallas Cowboys shocked many around the NFL when they traded LB/DE Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for DT Kenny Clark and two first-round picks.

Ultimately, Parsons would sign a four-year, $188 million contract extension with the Packers, a move that significantly bolstered their defensive lineup.

The four-time Pro Bowler was Dallas’ best defensive player and perhaps even the best player on the team, but now they will move on without him as they prepare for the battle against the Philadelphia Eagles in their season-opener on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

On Sunday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about the trade of Parsons to the Packers.

“We have so much going on here,” Sirianni said. “We’re getting ready to play the Cowboys, so he’s in your thoughts for game planning, but they still have guys that we have to prepare for. They have [DT] Kenny Clark, who’s a really good player, and they have good depth at that defensive end group. You don’t get too wrapped up in that except for some of the things you’re doing with the game plan. But, also understanding that they have a lot of good players over there and getting ready for those guys and shifting your attention to that.”

In seven career-games against Philadelphia, Parsons has recorded 29 total tackles, and five sacks, so he has been very difficult for the Eagles to deal with over the years.

It will be a daunting task to replace what Parsons did for the Cowboys. He’s a prolific pass rusher who can dominate a game. He’s had double-digit sacks in all four seasons in the league, which again will be hard to replace.

To Sirianni’s point, Clark is a solid player and will contribute to the Cowboys, but ultimately, he, or anyone on the Cowboys’ roster, is not Micah Parsons.
