On Saturday, in Buffalo against the Bills, Giants rookie LB Abdul Carter will make his NFL debut.
The third overall pick in this year’s draft, who has been eagerly waiting to step back onto the football field since his last game in December, is thrilled to make his NFL debut.
“Yeah, I’m excited for sure,” Carter said on Thursday. “Definitely a good opportunity for me to get my routine down, like coming into a football game. My last game was, shoot, six months ago, something like that. So, it’s cool to come out here, get a routine down, play football again. I’m excited.”
Carter also said he has talked to other vets on the roster to tell him what to expect in an NFL game.
“Yeah, they(veterans on the team) all came in and talked to all the rookies, just telling them about their preseason experience, what they went through, things that they did to help them out,” Carter said. “So, we just took from them and tried to apply it to our preseason.”
Carter, like many pass rushers, is eagerly awaiting the moment when he can finally hit a quarterback. The thrill of playing in the preseason and the prospect of sacking the quarterback is something he looks forward to with great excitement.
“Yeah, that’s going to be fun, just playing in the preseason and get to take guys to the ground, actually sack the quarterback,” he said. “So, I look forward to that.”
The 21-year-old has experienced two weeks of NFL training camp, which is an opportunity to learn a lot from coaches and other players, and he discussed what he learned during this time.
“I would definitely say just the detail of all the things that we’re doing on the field,” he said. “Obviously, college is detail, but I feel like at the NFL, just a higher level of detail I have got to be focused on. So, I’d probably say that’s the biggest difference.”
