Pistons sign Jones to two-way contract

The Detroit Pistons have signed guard Colby Jones to a two-way contract, the team announced Tuesday.

In a related move, the team announced it waived forward Ron Harper Jr.

Last season, Jones was acquired by Washington via trade on Feb. 6, 2025, where he saw action in 15 games for the Wizards and averaged 8.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 46.6% from the floor in 25.7 minutes per game.

The 23-year-old Jones has appeared in 69 career games across two seasons for the Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards, holding averages of 3.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists on 43.5% shooting in 10.2 minutes per game.

Jones was selected 34th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2023 NBA Draft following three seasons at Xavier University, where he was named Second Team All-Big East in 2023. In 86 career games for the Musketeers, Jones averaged 12.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 32.7 minutes per game.

Harper Jr., who is the son of former NBA player Ron Harper Sr. and the brother of Spurs rookie guard Dylan Harper, appeared in 23 games for the Motor City Cruise last season, NBA G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, and averaged 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 32.8 minutes per game. Harper Jr., who signed a two-way contract with Detroit in January, has appeared in 11 career NBA games for the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors.
