Fever’s suffocating defense shuts down Aces

Despite the absence of Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever(9-8) continued their winning streak, delivering a resounding 81-54 victory over the visiting Las Vegas Aces(8-9) on Thursday night.

With the win, Indiana snapped a 16-game losing streak to the Aces. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 25 points and six assists, and Aliyah Boston added 20 points and seven rebounds.

The Fever led by 22 points at halftime and led by as many as 27 points.

Defense wins championships, and the Fever have been getting it done on the defensive end. Indiana held the Aces to a season-low 26% shooting from the field and forced 19 turnovers, which led to 19 points for the Fever. Las Vegas had only one player in double figures as reigning league MVP A’Ja Wilson had a game-high 29 points. She had nine of the Aces’ 16 made shots. Outside of her, no one else from Las Vegas showed up on Thursday night.

Over the last four games, the Fever have demonstrated their defensive prowess, holding their opponents to a mere 36% shooting from the field. This impressive performance has led to a three-game winning streak, with the Aces and Lynx being held below 60 points in the last two games.

While the Fever’s record without Clark on the court this season stands at 4-4, it’s clear that the team’s defensive game has significantly improved in her absence.
