76ers’ Morey: ‘Trendon(Watford) is a young, dynamic player with a unique skillset’

On Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers officially announced that the team has signed forward Trendon Watford.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, it’s a two-year, $5.3 million deal.

In 44 appearances (10 starts) with Brooklyn last season, the 6-8 forward averaged career highs in points (10.2) and assists (2.6), adding 3.6 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game.

“Trendon is a young, dynamic player with a unique skillset who fits nicely with what we’re trying to accomplish on both sides of the ball,” 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey said in a press release. “His size and versatility allow him to guard multiple positions, while his handle and passing showcase his playmaking ability. He is a valued addition to our roster, and I’m excited to welcome him to Philadelphia.”

Originally signed by Portland as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2021-22 season, the 24-year-old Watford has produced 7.9 points on 52.0-percent shooting, 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 17.6 minutes over four NBA seasons with the Trail Blazers and Nets.

Since entering the NBA in 2021-22 out of LSU, the four-year veteran is one of five players throughout the league that has shot at least 52% from the field with at least 210 games played (min. 650 field goals).

Watford’s versatility is a key asset that could see him getting some playing time at both forward spots for the 76ers next season.
