Chicago Sky forward/center combination of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso was dominant in the team’s 97-86 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at Wintrust Arena on Tuesday night.
Cardoso, who will be away from the team for a few games to play with the Brazilian National Team, had a career-high 27 points and seven rebounds, while Reese added 18 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
For the Sparks, Azurá Stevens led the way with 21 points.
The Sky, who were down by as many as 14 points in this contest, trailed for most of the game and did not take their first lead until the fourth quarter. In the final stanza, the Sky went on a 17-4 run to take control of the game and ultimately get the win.
Watching Cardoso and Reese, the ‘Skyscrapers’, play together is a glimpse of the future the Sky had in mind when they drafted these two bigs. Their combined 45 points and 24 rebounds were a testament to their potential. Most importantly, their performance helped the Sky break a three-game losing streak.
This was Cardoso’s best game of her career. The second-year center even hit her first career-three-point shot in the win. With Cardoso away, the Sky will likely turn to veteran center Elizabeth Williams, who has been playing well lately, so hopefully, she can help the Sky build on this win.
Chicago(4-10) will begin a four-game road trip on Friday against Golden State, while the Sparks(4-11), who have lost four straight, conclude their three-game road trip in Indiana on Thursday night.
