Vikings extend TE Josh Oliver

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with TE Josh Oliver, the team announced on Tuesday.

The deal will keep Oliver, who signed a three-year, $21 million contract with Minnesota in 2023 after spending two seasons in Baltimore, with the Vikings through the 2028 season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the three-year extension is worth $23.25 million, with a maximum value of $27.5 million, including $11.9 million in new guarantees and $19.9 million in total guarantees.

During the 2024 season, Oliver posted single-season career highs in receiving yards (258) and receiving touchdowns (3) and tied his career-best in receptions with 22 in 15 games, including 12 starts.

Oliver is a big-time blocker, and according to Pro Football Focus, the six-year veteran led the NFL among tight ends with a 74.2 run blocking grade in 2024 (minimum 50% block snaps played) and earned the fourth-highest grade during the 2023 season with a 73.9.

The 28-year-old boasted the second-highest rating among all TEs in 2024 with at least 20 targets, catching 22 of his 28 targets for 258 yards and three touchdowns for a 140.8 rating, according to Next Gen Stats. Only Baltimore’s Mark Andrews, who hauled 55 of his 69 targets for 673 yards and 11 touchdowns, finished with a better rating of 140.9.

He’s totaled 44 receptions for 471 yards and five touchdowns in 32 appearances, including 26 starts, in his first two seasons in Minnesota (2023-24).

Oliver, who was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round (69th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft out of San Jose State, spent two seasons (2019-20) in Jacksonville before being traded to the Baltimore Ravens in March 2021.
