Vikings extend LB Van Ginkel

The Minnesota Vikings have signed OLB Andrew Van Ginkel to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a one-year $23 million extension that includes $22.4 million guaranteed.

The deal will keep Van Ginkel with the Vikings through the 2026 season.

Van Ginkel, who signed a two-year deal with the Vikings last offseason after spending his first five seasons with the Dolphins, garnered the first Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors of his six-year NFL tenure last season.  In Minnesota, Van Ginkel reunited with defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who selected him in the fifth round (151st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Flores’ first draft class as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

In 2024, Van Ginkel recorded single-season career highs in total tackles (79), tackles for loss (18), sacks (11.5), and interceptions (two), finishing the regular season tied for fourth in tackles for loss and tied for eighth in sacks league-wide.

The 29-year-old was the only player in the NFL with two interception-return touchdowns in 2024. He joined LB Jason Taylor (2006) as the second player in NFL history since at least 1982 to have at least 11 sacks and two interception-return touchdowns in a season.
