In basketball, a big part of defense is getting the rebound to end the possession, and Angel Reese, who was one of the top rebounders in the WNBA last season, is doing the same in Unrivaled. She is also blocking shots.

On Saturday, Unrivaled announced that Reese, who stars for Rose BC, was named the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year.

She earned the honor after receiving the most combined weighted votes from Unrivaled players and coaches and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

During the inaugural Unrivaled season, Reese led the league in rebounds per game (12.2 rpg) and led the Rose in blocked shots this year.

The 22-year-old was the anchor all season for Unrivaled’s best-scoring defense, allowing 65.2 points per game.

Reese, who is dealing with a hand injury, will not play on Sunday when Rose battles the Laces in the semifinals of the Unrivaled playoffs on Sunday in Miami.
