Slay, Gainwell to Steelers; Dillon signs with Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles released cornerback Darius Slay on Wednesday, and shortly thereafter, it became official that Slay was signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a one-year, fully guaranteed $10 million deal.

Slay stated that he wanted to play another season, and it appears he will do it in Pittsburgh.

According to ESPN, the team released Slay with a post-June 1 designation to create $4.3 million in additional salary cap room.

The six-time Pro Bowler had a strong year for the Eagles last season. He played in 14 games and had 49 tackles (39 solo), 13 PDs, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. According to Pro Football Focus, Slay, who helped Philadelphia win a Super Bowl last season, was fourth in pass breakups.

After spending the first seven years of his career with the Lions, the 12-year veteran was traded to the Eagles in 2020.

During his time with the Eagles, Slay went to three Pro Bowls, two conference championships, and two Super Bowls.

Gainwell also goes to Pittsburgh:

Kenny Gainwell will be joining Slay in Pittsburgh as he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers.

According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the one-year deal is worth $1.79 million and has a $620,000 guarantee.

Last season, the 25-year-old, in a backup role to Saquon Barkley, had 90 carries for 275 yards and a touchdown. In addition, Gainwell had 16 catches for 116 yards.

The four-year veteran should help the Steelers offset the loss of RB Najee Harris, who signed with the Chargers.

In 66 career games, Gainwell had 280 carries for 1,185 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also has 102 receptions for 721 yards and one touchdown.

Dillon to Eagles:

According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Eagles have signed former Packers RB A.J. Dillon to a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old missed the entire 2024 season with a neck injury.

In four NFL seasons, all with the Packers, Dillon has rushed for 2428 yards and 16 touchdowns on 597 carries.
