Jets name Darren Mougey general manager

A few days after naming former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn the team’s new coach, the New York Jets have found their GM.

The team announced on Saturday that it had agreed to terms with Darren Mougey to be its general manager. Mougey just completed his second season as the Denver Broncos’ assistant general manager.

Mougey, who participated in training camps with the Falcons and Cardinals, never played in the NFL.

Jets owner Woody Johnson believes that a combination of Mougey and Glenn as the GM/coach can bring the team back to prominence.

“Darren is a trusted NFL executive who has experience working with an impressive collection of football leaders,” Johnson said in a press release. “He is a proven talent evaluator who impressed us with his vision for this team. His partnership with Coach Glenn will revitalize this organization. I am proud of the thorough search we undertook and that it led us to the two best individuals to lead our football team going forward.”

Mougey, 39, spent 13 seasons with the Broncos and held various roles, including scout and director of player personnel.

He’s hoping to build a Super Bowl team in New York.

“It is one of the great honors and privileges of my life to serve as the general manager of the New York Jets,” Mougey said. “I want to thank Mr. Johnson for this responsibility, one I do not take lightly. I could not be more excited to work alongside Coach Glenn to build a championship team that will make Jets fans proud.”
