Mavs’ Lively to miss at least a month with ankle injury

Mavericks center Dereck Lively II sustained a right ankle stress fracture, the team announced Wednesday.

Lively, who left January 14’s game against the Nuggets and did not return with a sprained ankle, will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

The second-year center has missed the last three games, and according to ESPN, Lively is expected to miss two to three months with the injury.

After defeating the Phoenix Suns in their first game without an injured Luka Doncic(calf strain) on December 26, the Mavs were 20-11.  Since then, Dallas(23-20) has gone 3-9 and has lost four out of five.

Kyrie Irving, the team’s second-leading scorer, has also recently missed time with a bulging disc in his back.

In 32 games, Lively is averaging 9.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per contest.

The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday night when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves.
