Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had to overcome many obstacles in the team’s 28-22 win against the Rams on Sunday in the Divisional Round.
The first obstacle was the weather. Like everybody else in the second half, Hurts had to overcome the snow, which blanketed Lincoln Financial Field.
“It was a new experience,” he said about the weather. “Definitely, next time that happens, I’ll be able to look back and pull from this game and be better from it.”
Second, Hurts suffered an apparent left leg injury after he got rolled up in the third quarter. That injury limited Hurts’ movement and impacted his performance.
“Tough game,” he said. “A challenging game. I was able to finish the game, and we will see how the week goes.”
Hurts was asked if he was confident that he’ll play next week against the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, and he gave a one-word answer:
“Yeah.”
Overall, Hurts, who finished the game completing 15-of-20 passes for 128 yards and ran for 70 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown run on the team’s opening possession, believes the offense can always be better.
“Enough is never enough,” he said. “Our performance today was enough to win, but enough is never enough in terms of the standards we have for ourselves and what we want to do. There’s always a hunger. There’s always a drive for more and this urge to continue to improve, and that’s how it will continue to be. At this point in the season, the number one thing is about improving. When you play the game, it’s about improving, but the number one thing in playoff ball is winning and finding ways to win the game. We want to play complementary football, be able to find ways to win, and go out there and find a way to win.”
Look, Hurts again played well enough to win. It’s difficult to put up big numbers in the snow, and it becomes even more difficult when you’re playing hurt, but he got through it. The team hopes he’ll be healthy enough to play against the Commanders next week because they will need him if they want to advance to the Super Bowl.
