Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 6, through Sunday, January 12, the NBA announced Monday.
This is Garland’s second player of the week honor this season (third of his career). Garland becomes the third NBA player this season to win multiple player of the week awards (Jayson Tatum, Nikola Jokic).
Garland led the Cavaliers to a 2-1 record this past week, helping improve the Cavaliers record to an NBA-best 33-5 this season, marking the Cavs best start to a season in franchise history and tied for the sixth best start in NBA history.
During the week, Garland averaged a team-high 26.0 points and 7.7 assists in 32.3 minutes while also shooting .528 from the field, .409 from the three-point line and .929 from the free throw line.
He was the only player in the NBA this past week to average at least 20 points and seven assists while shooting at least .500 from the field, .400 from the three-point line and .900 from the free throw line. Garland ranked sixth in points per game (26.0), sixth in assists per game (7.7) and tied for 11th in three-pointers made per game (3.0).
In 37 games this season, Garland is averaging 20.9 points (.498 FG%, .429 3FG%, .917 FT%), 6.7 assists and 1.11 steals in just 30.2 minutes per contest. He is the only player in the NBA averaging at least 20.0 points while shooting .490 from the field, .400 from three-point range and .900 from the foul line and his .917 shooting from the free throw line ranks third in the NBA.
