The Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) finished the regular season by defeating the New York Giants (3-14) 20-13 at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
Philadelphia has registered a 14+ win season for just the second time in franchise history, having previously accomplished the feat during the 2022 campaign (14-3), and the last time they won 14 games, they made it to the Super Bowl.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:
-Tanner McKee completed 27-of-41 attempts for 269 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start. He completed passes to eight different players. McKee appears like he could be the backup for the team next season.
-Jahan Dotson had a strong performance for the Eagles. He led the team with 94 yards on seven catches. Dotson’s 94 yards marked the third-highest single-game total of his career. In addition, Dotson’s seven receptions were the second-highest mark of his career.
-Linebackers Oren Burks and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. combined for 28 tackles. Burks had 17 tackles, the most by an Eagle since 1994, and Trotter Jr. had 11 tackles in his first career start.
Honorable Mention:
Sydney Brown put the game away in the fourth quarter with his second career interception.
End of the Day:
The regular season is over, and the real season starts next week at home against the Green Bay Packers. This won’t be an easy matchup; the two teams faced off in the season-opener in Brazil, and the Eagles won 34-29.
It’s not the ideal matchup for the Eagles; however, you have the game at home, so that should help.
If the Eagles play a clean game, meaning no turnovers, they should win. They are the better team, but anything can happen in a single-elimination situation.
What’s Next:
The Eagles will host the Packers next Sunday afternoon.
One More Thing….
Today’s victory marked the 300th win of Jeffrey Lurie’s ownership (including playoffs).
The Eagles (300-231-3, .565) are one of five NFL franchises with 300+ victories since 1994.
Nick Sirianni earned his 50th career victory as a head coach (including playoffs). In the regular season, Sirianni has produced a 48-20 (.706) record in four years with Philadelphia.
Per Elias Sports, Sirianni owns the sixth-best regular-season winning percentage in NFL history, behind Guy Chamberlin (.784, 58-16-7 from 1922-27), John Madden (.759, 103-32-7 from 1969-78), Vince Lombardi (.738, 96-34-6 from 1959-67, ‘69), Ray Flaherty (.720, 54-21-3 from 1936-42) and George Allen (.712, 116-47-5 from 1966-77).
Sirianni has produced the second-most regular-season wins by an NFL head coach in their first four seasons, trailing only George Seifert (52-12, .813).
