Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead was involved in an auto accident Saturday morning on his way to our practice facility. Due to injuries sustained in the accident, Whitehead has been placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, the team announced Saturday.
According to the Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud, the 27-year-old Whitehead, is okay, but he will miss multiple weeks, which will probably mean the playoffs, making it necessary to go on the NFI list.
Last week, the team announced that Whitehead, who was placed on injured reserve on November 29 due to a pectoral injury, was designated for return from injured reserve.
In 11 games for Tampa Bay this season, the seven-year veteran has recorded 76 tackles (two for loss), three passes defensed and one quarterback hit.
Due to Whitehead’s injury, Tampa signed safety Ryan Neal from our practice squad to the 53-man roster.
The Buccaneers(9-7), who need to win or a Falcons loss to capture the NFC South title, host the New Orleans Saints(5-11) on Sunday.
