Pistons’ Ivey has surgery to repair broken fibula

Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent successful surgery to repair a broken fibula in his left leg, the team announced Thursday.

According to the Pistons, the 22-year-old will be re-evaluated in four weeks, and the team will provide additional updates as appropriate during the recovery and rehabilitation process.

However, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Ivey will miss most of the season; he could return for the playoffs, but the team will be cautious with the third-year guard.

The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s win over Orlando. Ivey was going for a loose ball when Magic guard Cole Anthony rolled up Ivey’s left leg, which led to the injury.

Anthony and Ivey’s teammates were emotional after the injury.

This season, Ivey is the Pistons’ second-leading scorer, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per contest. He’s one of the reasons the Pistons(15-18) have already surpassed their win total(14) from last season.

The Pistons continue their four-game homestand on Friday when they host the Charlotte Hornets.
