Official: Vikings sign QB Daniel Jones to practice squad

On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings made it official when they announced the signing of quarterback Daniel Jones.

The 27-year-old requested and was recently released by the New York Giants after he lost his starting job. Jones, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, signed to the Vikings practice squad after spending his first six NFL seasons with the New York Giants.

Jones started 10 games for the Giants in 2024, including against the Vikings, going 216-of-341 (63.3%) for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions, adding 265 yards and two touchdowns on 67 rushing attempts.

Over his 70-game career, which includes 69 starts, Jones has completed 64.1% of his passes for 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. He’s also contributed 2,179 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 399 career carries.

After leading the Giants to the Divisional Round of the 2022 Playoffs, which included a win over the Vikings, Jones signed a four-year, $160 million deal with the Giants.

This signing presents a promising opportunity for both the Vikings and Jones. It’s a chance for Minnesota to assess Jones’s potential, and for Jones to demonstrate his ability. If Sam Darnold gets hurt or even struggles, the Vikings could turn to Jones.
