The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed safety Jordan Whitehead on Injured Reserve, the team announced Friday.
Additionally, the team has promoted linebacker Vi Jones to the active roster from the practice squad.
Whitehead injured his pectoral muscle last Sunday in the team’s 30-7 win over the Giants. According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Whitehead could return if the Bucs can get to the playoffs. Without Whitehead, safety Mike Edwards should get the nod.
In 11 games for Tampa Bay this season, Whitehead recorded 76 tackles (two for loss), three passes defensed, and one quarterback hit.
He originally entered the league as a fourth-round selection (No. 117 overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 104 career games between the Buccaneers and the New York Jets, making 100 starts and compiling 553 tackles (31 for loss), 45 passes defensed, 11 interceptions, seven quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Jones entered the league as a college free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. Jones, who has been with Tampa Bay since signing to their practice squad during the 2023 season, has appeared in six career games between the Seahawks and Buccaneers.
Tampa travels to Carolina to battle the Panthers on Sunday.
