Blazers give medical updates on Thybulle, Clingan, Williams III

On Tuesday, the Portland Trail Blazers announced that guard/forward Matisse Thybulle suffered a right ankle sprain while ramping up in an effort to return to the court. Thybulle underwent an MRI to confirm a grade 2 sprain of the right ankle. He is expected to miss three to six weeks.

Thybulle, who has not played a regular season game for Portland this season, underwent a procedure in October to address inflammation in the right knee,

Last season, the 27-year-old averaged 5.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per contest.

In July 2023, the five-year veteran signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Blazers.

Clingan to miss two weeks with MCL sprain:

Rookie center Donovan Clingan received additional imaging on the left knee, which revealed a grade 2 MCL sprain. Clingan will be reevaluated in two weeks.

Clingan, 20, is averaging 5.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest this season.

Williams placed into concussion protocol:

Center Robert Williams III has been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol. Williams left Monday night’s game at Memphis and did not return for the second half.

Williams, 27, is averaging 9.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per contest.

Per the NBA’s Concussion Policy, Williams will now begin the NBA-mandated Return-to-Participation Protocol. This process includes a series of steps designed to ensure an athlete exhibits symptom-free behavior before resuming basketball activities. There is no predetermined timetable to complete the protocol, as each injury and player is different, and recovery time can vary in each case.

On Wednesday, the Blazers(7-11) end their five-game road trip in Indiana against the Pacers.
