Spurs’ Popovich suffered mild stroke

The San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has suffered a mild stroke, the team announced Wednesday.

According to the team, the episode occurred on Nov. 2 at the Frost Bank Center. Popovich, who has already started a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery. At this point, a timeline for his return to the sidelines has not been determined.

Popovich has missed the past six games, and while he’s been out, assistant Mitch Johnson has been coaching the team and is expected to be the coach moving forward.

The 75-year-old, the NBA’s all-time winningest coach, is in his 29th season as coach of the Spurs.

San Antonio (5-6) will host the Wizards on Wednesday night.
