Davis on fight with Lemos: ‘There’s going to be blood everywhere’

Norfolk, Virginia native and 135-pound contender Keyshawn Davis is coming home on Friday in his toughest test to date when he takes on Argentina-born powerhouse Gustavo Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) in a 10-round showdown at Norfolk’s Scope Arena,

The undefeated Davis (11-0, 7 KOs) will headline the biggest card at this venue since 1994, when former world champion and Norfolk native Pernell Whitaker defeated Buddy McGirt.

Davis is excited to be back home.

“This means a lot to all three of us and, of course, to the city,” Davis said at the final press conference on Wednesday. “There’s been a 30-year dry spell {of boxing}. And God had it written that we would come back to the city.”

“We’re doing this in a major way. We’ve already sold 10,000 tickets, and we’re going to sell some more. It’s going to be a treat on Friday.”

The 27-year-old Davis wants to inflict punishment on Lemos, and when it’s all said and done, according to Davis, Lemos will be a bloody mess at the end of the night.

“It’s not going to be beautiful,” Davis said. “There’s going to be blood everywhere. His nose might be a little lopsided after. But I respect you, Gustavo. You are an amazing fighter. I appreciate you for taking the fight in my hometown, but I’m going to f**k you up.”

Lemos, who gave Richardson Hitchins a tough in his last outing and his only loss, contested at 140 pounds, might come into this fight with a little advantage as he was six pounds overweight at the weigh-in on Thursday.

The fight will still go, and it won’t be easy for Davis, who will fight on this card with his two brothers.  Plus, it’s a homecoming fight, so the pressure could be on Davis to impress, which he will do.

Prediction: Davis wins by a lopsided unanimous decision.
