On Monday, the NBA announced that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Week 2 (games played Monday, October 28, through Sunday, November 3).
This marks Mitchell’s first player of the week honor this season and seventh of his NBA career (once in 2021-22, twice in 2018-19 and 2022-23, and once in 2023-24).
Mitchell led the Cavaliers to an NBA-best 4-0 record this past week, with all victories coming against teams that made the NBA Playoffs last season. During the week, he scored over 20 points in all four games and averaged a team-best 25.3 points on .506 shooting from the field, .419 from three-point range and perfect from the foul line (10-10), to go along with 2.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 30.0 minutes. Among Eastern Conference leaders (minimum three games played), Mitchell was tied for first in free throw percentage, while ranking third in field goals made (39), tied for third in total points scored (101), tied for eighth in three-pointers made (13), and ninth in points per game. He was the only player in the NBA to average at least 25.0 points while shooting .500 from the field, .400 from three-point range and perfect from the foul line this past week.
On the season, Mitchell is averaging a team-best 24.4 points on .500 shooting from the field, 2.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.43 steals in just 29.6 minutes per game. The Cavaliers currently have an NBA-best 7-0 overall record to start the season for just the second time in franchise history, along with the 1976-77 campaign (8-0 start).
The undefeated Cavs(7-0) will face the Bucks on Monday night in Cleveland.
