Giants’ Daboll still believes in Daniel Jones

The New York Giants lost their third straight game when they fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-18on Monday night.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones completed 24 of 38 passes for 264 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception.

Jones had two turnovers on the team’s final two possessions, which included a fumble and an interception.

Despite the third straight loss and New York’s 2-6 record, Giants head coach Brian Daboll remains steadfast in his support for Jones. The six-year veteran showed promise in the game against the Steelers, and Daboll is confident in his abilities to lead the team.

“Yeah, on the last play, the ball got away from him a little bit on the interception,” Daboll said on Monday. “The series before that, we got the strip sack. I think that he did some good things throughout the game, made some good decisions, made some good checks. I thought he pushed the ball down the field and gave our guys some opportunities to make, which that was a great throw to (wide receiver Darius Slayton) Slay, a couple good throws to (wide receiver) Malik (Nabers) and he’s been working hard on that, and I think that showed. And he did a good job of operating the plays and the checks and things that we had in that environment. So, I thought he did some good things and then ultimately, like you said at the end there, it’s all of us. We just didn’t get it done.”

Clearly, Jones has not lived up to his four-year, $160 million contract, which he signed in 2023. Barring a complete turnaround from the Giants, the 27-year-old probably will not be in New York next season. The Giants could fall to 2-7 after Sunday because they host the NFC East-leading Washington Commanders, so things could get worse before they get better.
