Hurts, defense help Eagles dominate Bengals

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) defeated the Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) 37-17 at Paycor Stadium.

With the win, the Eagles, who have won three straight, defeat the Bengals in Cincy for the first time in franchise history.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:

-Jalen Hurts may have had his best game of the season. He finished the day completing 16-of-20 passes for 236 yards, touchdown, and a 132.5 passer rating. He added three rushing touchdowns on ten carries for 37 yards. Most importantly, it’s another turnover-free game.

In the second half, Hurts was 9/9 for 150 passing yards and three total touchdowns.

In the last three games, Hurts is 42/54 with 614 Passing Yards, 92 rushing yards, and nine total touchdowns, and, most importantly, no turnovers.

-DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown showed why they are one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL. Smith had six catches for 85 yards, including a beautiful 45-yard touchdown reception, while Brown had five receptions for 84 yards. When these two are on the field, the Eagles’ offense can be special.

-Defense: Eagles got another solid performance from the defense. They created two turnovers, did a decent job controlling Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase(nine catches, 54 yards, TD), limited the Cincy to 58 yards rushing(2.9 per carry), and held the Bengals to only seven second-half points.

Honorable Mention:

Saquon Barkley registered his second consecutive game with 100-plus rushing yards, finishing with 108 yards on the ground (22 carries). He has recorded 100-plus scrimmage yards in six of the season’s first seven games for the second time in his career.

Rookie DB Cooper DeJean appeared to be all over the field; he had a huge stop on Chase for a loss on fourth-and-1, which helped the Eagles take control.

End of the Day:

The Eagles get a quality road win against a solid Bengals team.

Going into the bye week, Barkley was playing at a high-level, the Eagles defense was terrible, and they couldn’t sack the quarterback or stop anybody. The offense looked disjointed, and Hurts was a turnover machine.

Since the bye, Hurts has not had a turnover, Barkley continues to be elite, and the defense, which held teams without touchdowns in two of the last three games and has 14 sacks in the previous three games, may have found itself.

It appears the team has rallied around their head coach Nick Sirianni, and they may have turned things around, or maybe the schedule just got a little light; who knows, but they were very good on Sunday.

Next up:

The Eagles host Doug Pederson and the Jaguars next Sunday.
